The Environmental Defense Fund (“EDF”) announced in a May 8th news release that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) released the latest U.S. Greenhouse Gas Inventory (“GGI”).
The GGI is stated to have been released in response to an EDF Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) request.
The reported data has traditionally been made available to the public in October of each year. EPA has previously estimated that 85-90% of annual man-made U.S. greenhouse gasses have been reported under the program.
EDF states that it submitted a FOIA request in April for records related to the GGI. In response, EPA is stated to have provided various documents including the Inventory Report that had not been previously published.
The organization further states that:
…Our initial examination of the data finds that the report is highly detailed and transparent.
