The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) announced on May 6th that it has established a “Permitting Authority Map” (“Map”).
The Map is accessible via EPA’s website and identifies which regulatory agencies have the authority to issue permits covering each of the federal agencies’ permitting programs and environmental statutes.
EPA describes the Map as providing:
- The ability to make a quick determination whether the permitting authority is with EPA or if there has been an approved delegation, primacy, or authorization given to a state, territory, Tribal nation, or local agency.
- The use of a Geo Platform based web map provides maximum flexibility for site visualization and project planning ability.
The environmental statutes addressed in the Map include:
- Clean Air Act.
- Clean Water Act.
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
- Safe Drinking Water Act.
- Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act.
