The United States Army Corps of Engineers (Vicksburg District) (“Corps”) issued a July 20th public notice regarding a Section 404 Clean Water Act application by the City of Sherwood, Arkansas.
The application requests authorization for the placement of dredged and fill materials in waters of the United States associated with a drainage improvement project in Sherwood, Arkansas.
The notice states that the purpose of the proposed project is to elevate the Jacksonville-CATO Road in Sherwood above the flood plain, straighten geometry for safety purposes and to accommodate traffic. Approximately 1.4 acres of forested wetlands and approximately 647 linear feet of an intermittent stream is projected to be impacted for the proposed drainage improvements. Further, approximately 2,911 cubic yards of fill material and 336 cubic yards of concrete fill are proposed to be placed in the jurisdictional areas.
Sherwood is stated to be proposing to purchase the required compensatory mitigation credits from a Corps Vicksburg District approved mitigation bank.
