Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment - Division of Environmental Quality (“DEQ”) Office of Water Quality Deputy Director, Ms. Stacie Wassell, announced during an October 9th Arkansas Environmental Federation Convention presentation that the agency will be undertaking a per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (“PFAS”) sampling program.
Ms. Wassell announced this upcoming project during her discussion of past and upcoming DEQ Office of Water Quality activities.
Minutes from an Arkansas Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Commission (“ANRC”) meeting notes in part:
…Through this pilot project, DEQ seeks to obtain information about PFAS in Arkansas’ waters of the state.
The meeting minutes also note that sampling and analyses to be performed in what is described as a “pilot project” are not a typical part of DEQ’s regular monitoring activities.
Ms. Wassell indicated the sampling that will be undertaken is intended to provide some initial indication of the status and fate of PFAS in the state’s surface waters and drinking water. DEQ’s lab will be acquiring additional equipment to undertake such sampling.
A copy of the minutes from the prior ARNC meeting can be downloaded here.
