The Mississippi River Water Action Collaborative (“MRWAC”) announced a three-part webinar series will be broadcast in August.
The webinar series is described as spotlighting projects that are improving water stewardship across the Mississippi River Basin.
The following webinars will be held:
- August 12 – Agricultural Water Stewardship Across the Mississippi River Basin.
- August 19 – Reforestation & Water Conservation in Working Agricultural Landscapes.
- August 25 – Landscape-Scale Water Stewardship & Groundwater Conservation.
MRWAC describes the organization as a:
… network of stakeholders working together to implement large-scale water stewardship solutions.
The organization has representation from five Mississippi River Basins. Its purpose is described as providing a platform for organizations to align efforts in tackling:
- Water quantity
- Water quality
- Accessibility challenges
Additional challenges MRWAC focuses on include:
- Nutrient, sediment, and chemical pollution
- Groundwater contamination
- Groundwater depletion
- More frequent and severe floods and droughts
- Increasing water demand
- Disparities in water access linked to historical underinvestment
Projects that the organization is working to implement include:
- Wetland restoration
- Sustainable agriculture practices
- Green infrastructure improvements
- Urban water efficiency
