The Arkansas Water Resources Center (“AWRC”) announced an upcoming webinar titled:
Beaver Lake Secchi Day: History, Trends, and Citizen Science (“Webinar”).
The Webinar will be held on June 19th from noon to 1:00 P.M.
Matthew Rich, an Environmental Specialist with Beaver Water District, will be the speaker. Mr. Rich received his BS and MS degrees from the University of Arkansas.
AWRC also notes that:
…Between his degrees, he spent time as a Research Associate and Lab Manager at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) researching the effects of oil spills on Louisiana marshes, as well as annual hypoxia in the northern Gulf of Mexico known as “The Dead Zone”. For the past 9 years, he’s worked on source water protection issues, along with citizen science engagement efforts like Secchi Day on Beaver Lake.
The Webinar will discuss:
- History and formation of Secchi Day.
- Data trends from this citizen-scientist-collected data.
- What it takes to run a similar successful program.
