The Arkansas Department of Health – Energy Section publication Arkansas Drinking Water Update references a new appointment to the Arkansas Drinking Water Advisory and Operator Licensing Committee (“Committee”).
Bruce Curtis of the Conway County Regional Solid Waste District has been appointed to the Committee.
The seven-person Committee oversees the operation of the water operator certification program. The certification program has been in operation as a mandatory requirement for operators of public water systems since 1957. The purpose of certification of water operators to help ensure that the citizens of Arkansas receive ample supplies of potable water from any public water system.
Committee members include:
- One Engineer from the Department of Health.
- One Consulting Engineer who designs water system projects.
- One Engineer active in teaching at a state university.
- Four Class A Operators.
Except for the Arkansas Department of Health representative, each member serves a single term of 7 years. Candidates for the Committee are nominated by any of the various industry groups active in drinking water.
Mr. Curtis’ background includes 19 years of experience in the drinking water industry with the Conway County Regional Water District. Further, he has served for 20 years as a voluntary firefighter (including 7 years as Chief), and 8 years with the Conway County Mounted Patrol. He has held an Arkansas Distribution Grade 4 License since 2008 and an Arkansas Treatment Grade 4 License since 2011.
Mr. Curtis has also held an Arkansas Plumber Inspector License since 2023.
The nomination for Mr. Curtis was received from the Arkansas Rural Water Association.
