Mike Harrell of Ash Grove Cement Company (“Ash Grove”), a CRH company of Overland Park, Kansas, has retired.
Mike has served for many years as Ash Grove’s Director of Alternative Fuels and Resource Recovery.
Mike’s Arkansas connection is the fact that he has spent a significant amount of time working with Ash Grove’s cement manufacturing facility in Foreman, Arkansas. As a result, he has worked for many years with other members of Arkansas’ regulated community and the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment – Division of Environmental Quality staff.
Mike has played a significant role in the development of the use of alternative fuels at various Ash Grove cement manufacturing facilities (including Foreman). Such activity has been crucial in the beneficial reuse of various solid and hazardous wastes, conserving resources, and reducing the use of electricity/natural gas.
Prior to joining Ash Grove in 1999, he served as Environmental Manager at Medusa Cement. Other previous positions include Environmental Manager at Cadence Environmental Energy and Assistant Hazardous Waste Manager at Indiana University.
Organizations with which he has been affiliated include:
- Arkansas Environmental Federation – President.
- Cement Recycling Coalition – Technical Chair.
- Air and Waste Management Association.
Finally, of more importance to me, he has been a good colleague and friend.
