Arkansas Environmental Personnel Moves: Lance Jones, P.E. (Former Director of Engineering/Arkansas Department of Health) Joins Hawkins-Weir Engineers

The Arkansas Department of Health publication Arkansas Drinking Water Update announced that Lance Jones, P.E., BCEE, Director of Engineering, retired from the Arkansas Department of Health (“ADH”) on May 1st after 33 years of service with the Public Health Engineering Branch.
Mr. Jones recently joined Hawkins-Weir Engineers.
He served as Director of Engineering from January 2022 to April 2026.
The ADH Engineering Section conducts plan review activities in a number of areas. These include multi-division review projects. Note that ADH has primacy under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and therefore its duties include administration of the Public Water Supervision program which involves protection of drinking water sources.
Mr. Jones joined the ADH Engineering Section in 1992 working as a District Engineer for East Arkansas and as a Technical Support Engineer overseeing corrosion control treatment requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act Lead and Copper Rule as well as treatment requirements for Non-Community systems to meet requirements of the Total Coliform Rule and Surface Water Treatment Rule. Additional responsibilities included implementation of the Surface Water Treatment Rule and Disinfectant By-Product Rule.
Subsequent ADH positions included:
- Engineer Supervisor for North Central Arkansas.
- Technical Support Chief.
- Chief Engineer.
Mr. Jones received his Professional Engineer license in 1997.
Additional activities include:
- Arkansas Water Well Construction Commission.
- Arkansas Water and Wastewater Advisory Committee.
- Board of Directors for the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators.
