Mr. Michael Grappe´ will be undertaking a presentation at the Thirty-Fourth International Conference on Solid Waste Technology and Management in Annapolis, Maryland, in the Spring titled:
Addressing Tire Dumps through Legislation (“Presentation”)
Mr. Grappe´ serves as Chief Program Officer at the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality.
The abstract for the Presentation indicates it will address in part:
- Traditional location of discarded tires
- How discarded tires enter the environment
- Why discarded tires enter the environment
- Prior national efforts to address discarded tires
- Root cause of the accumulation of discarded tires and problems with prior approaches
- Legislation (Arkansas Act 317) enacted to address discarded tires
- Focusing efforts on the source
- Proactively seeking markets to recycle the materials after processing
- Potential role as a sustainable model for other states
