The Beaver Watershed Alliance (“BWA”) announced in a June 12th news release that the 2026 War Eagle Creek Stewardship Award had been presented to the Mowry family.
BWA states that the Mowry family is being recognized for their outstanding contribution to conservation and the long-term protection of the War Eagle watershed.
Tom and Karen Mowry are stated to have donated a conservation easement to permanently protect their 30-acre property with the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust. The property is described as being:
… Located in the Washington County portion of the War Eagle watershed near Highway 412, this property represents an important conservation win in an area experiencing increasing development pressure.
Further, the property is situated within the critical Beaver Lake source water protection area. It is stated to include more than 1,100 feet of a recognized stream, along with ponds, natural springs, forested ridgelines, and bottomland hardwoods.
Long-term stewardship funding is stated to have been secured through the Beaver Water District - enabling the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust to monitor and care for the Mowry Property in perpetuity.
BWA describes its organization as a:
… nonprofit organization focusing on maintaining high quality drinking water in Beaver Lake and improving water quality within the Beaver Lake Watershed.
