The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (“AMWA”) has named the Beaver Water District (“BWD”) as one of the 2023 winners of its annual Sustainability Water Utility Management Award.
The other award winners include:
- Atlanta Department of Watershed Management
- Birmingham Water Works
- Contra Costa Water District
- Mesa Water Resources Department
- Portland Water District
AMWA states that the award:
. . . recognizes water utilities committed to achieving a balance of innovative and successful efforts in economic, social, and environmental areas.
AMWA’s rationale for BWD’s award states that the utility:
. . . is a model of sustainable water utility management, emphasizing excellence in daily operations. Their Source Water Protection efforts involve dedicated funds to reduce sediment and nutrient loading in Beaver lake, and they also employ various eco-friendly practices, including oil analysis, LED lighting, and recycling. Stakeholder engagement is vital, with educational programs and a Crisis Communication Plan that fosters trust within their community.
BWD’s Chief Executive Officer M. Lane Crider, P.E., LEED AP is quoted in the BWD publication The Source as stating:
. . . It was a great honor for Beaver Water District to receive the Sustainable Water Utility Management Award by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies. . . it is not an award that involves just the management staff; it is an award that belongs to every employ of the District.
AMWA describes itself as an organization of the largest publicly owned drinking water systems in the United States. Its membership serves more than 160 million people across the United States with safe drinking water.
