National Environmental Education Advisory Council: U.S. EPA Administrator Zeldin Announces Bill Jones (Arkansas Game & Fish Commissioner) as One of Ten New Members

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) Administrator Lee Zeldin announced in a September 14th news release 10 new members of the National Environmental Education Advisory Council (“NEEAC”).

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Commissioner Bill Jones was named as one of the ten new members.

The other new Council Members include:

• Dr. Ryan Brock, Jessie Beck Elementary School
• Mr. Doug Deason, The Deason Foundation
• Mr. Jeff Foxworthy, Foxworthy Outdoors
• Mr. Albert Huddleston, Aethon Energy
• Mr. Scott Jordan, Cuba-Rushford Central School District
• Dr. James Kroll, Stephen F. Austin State University
• Mr. Keith Mark, Hunter Nation, Chair
• Dr. Nathan Roberts, College of the Ozarks
• Mr. Richard Wissink, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever

The NEEAC is an independent advisory committee that provides advice and recommendations to the EPA Administrator on environmental education needs for:

• Schools
• Universities
• State Departments (of Education and Natural Resources)
• Educational organizations

The NEEAC was established in 1990 by the National Environmental Education Act and chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The NEEAC charter is renewed every two years.

EPA’s September 14th announcement states that the new Council promotes what it describes as “true environmental education and explore ways to support President Trump’s Make America Beautiful Again agenda.” The news release further states that the work will emphasize:

• Supporting responsible stewardship of natural resources.
• Encouraging voluntary conservation.
• Connecting more Americans with outdoor recreation like hunting and fishing.
• Supporting joint efforts that conserve America’s wildlife populations while driving economic growth.

Mr. Jones was appointed to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission by Governor Asa Hutchinson in 2022. He serves as Chief Executive Officer of Sissy’s Log Cabin in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Prior positions listed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission include Vice-Chair of the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation and past president of the Pine Bluff chapter of Ducks Unlimited.
