“How are AI tools affecting commercial litigation?”
Attorney Blake Brizzolara: Some plaintiffs will file lawsuits on their own without counsel. So they'll proceed pro se and rely on chat GPT or other AI in order to help them put together pleadings that include a bunch of legal jargon – but not necessarily applicable or useful pleadings.
I think that AI is a great tool. It has given clients another source of information. It has also highlighted for me the need for an attorney. Not just AI to prosecute your lawsuit for you, but an actual attorney who can tell you, “With this judge, in this particular jurisdiction, we think that we should approach the litigation using this strategy because we believe it'll get to the outcomes you're looking for more effectively.”
For most people, being involved in a lawsuit is a very daunting situation. And so helping them through that process, being able to shepherd them and assist them in the best way that we can is ultimately what our role is here.
