(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) – Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C. has expanded its national Insurance Regulatory practice with Attorney Laura Arp joining the firm. Arp is an experienced insurance regulatory lawyer with a background in government, academia and private practice. Her addition strengthens the firm’s capability to assist clients in managing the growing complexities of insurance regulation.
Arp’s experience as a former regulator at the Nebraska Department of Insurance ensures that Mitchell Williams’ clients receive practical, actionable guidance tailored to evolving industry challenges. At the Nebraska Department of Insurance, she served as hearing officer in administrative actions involving insurance companies, agents and other regulated entities. Arp worked collaboratively with counterparts in other states, federal agencies, Medicaid and Behavioral Health divisions, consumer advocates and healthcare providers to advance regulatory objectives.
“We are extremely pleased that Laura has joined our firm. She brings a practical understanding of the insurance business and its complex regulatory environment combined with deep industry and regulatory relationships. Her experience strengthens our ability to deliver even more value to our clients,” said Mitchell Williams Managing Director Derrick Smith.
In addition to private practice, Arp will continue to serve as outside counsel and claims administrator for the Nebraska Excess Liability Fund, where she is responsible for tracking claims against qualified health care providers and settling claims that reach into the Fund’s layer of coverage. She collaborates with actuaries and department counsel on the Fund’s annual surcharge determinations, reports, and reinsurance renewals.
Arp holds certifications in Market Conduct Management from the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society and Professional in Insurance Regulation from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
She earned an LL.M. in insurance law from the University of Connecticut School of Law and holds a Juris Doctor with distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law. Arp also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Carrol University.
