LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C. announced Nick Thompson has joined the firm as Counsel in the Little Rock office.
Thompson has 40 years of experience in insurance regulatory law and legislative advocacy. In addition to his role as an insurance industry senior executive, Thompson served as a state insurance regulator, advisor and legislative assistant to a governor, state counsel to a successful presidential campaign and state lobbyist for multiple clients, which included national insurance and health care trade associations.
Thompson previously served 21 years as Partner in the insurance regulatory practice at Mitchell Williams. He most recently served as Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at UnitedHealth Group, Inc., advising senior management on a wide range of state and federal insurance regulatory and holding company issues and overseeing the company’s advocacy before the NAIC and state insurance departments. During his prior years with Mitchell Williams, he served as chair of the firm’s national insurance regulatory group and was a member of the board of directors and members’ compensation committee.
Thompson earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas, where he also received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He is a member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, Arkansas Bar Association and District of Columbia Bar Association. Thompson also serves as Chair of the California Life & Health Insurance Guarantee Association.
