Mr. Doug Ford of Pollution Management, Inc. undertook a presentation at the Arkansas Environmental Federation Regulated Waste Workshop titled Summary of the New EPA UST Regulations (“Presentation”).
Mr. Ford is a registered Professional Engineer with Pollution Management, Inc. in their Little Rock, Arkansas office.
Mr. Ford’s Presentation provided an overview of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) publication of revisions to the federal underground storage tank (“UST”) regulations on July 15, 2015. The revisions were the first extensive revisions to the federal UST regulations since their original promulgation in 1988.
USTs are utilized are hundreds of thousands of facilities nationwide to store petroleum and chemical products.
The federal UST regulations were promulgated pursuant to a subchapter of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and address design, installation, leak prevention, detection, and corrective action, and financial responsibility issues.
Arkansas obtained delegation of the federal UST regulation a number of years ago.
Mr. Ford’s Presentation addressed issues such as:
- Whether the new federal regulations affect Arkansas?
- An overview of the federal revisions and their purpose
- Improve operation and maintenance and reduce petroleum releases
- Addressing UST systems that were deferred in the 1988 regulations (including UST serving emergency generators)
