The organization Ozarks Water Watch has published the 2016 version of its annual report titled Status of the Watershed – the Upper White River in Arkansas and Missouri (“Report”).
Ozarks Water Watch states that the Report is designed to ask the question, “How’s the water in our lakes and streams at the Upper White River Basin Watershed?”
Information in the Report is generated by a network of agencies, organizations and volunteers.
Ozarks Water Watch states that in 2015 over 3000 measurements were undertaken at 189 different locations. The measurements are stated to include:
- 695 Dissolved oxygen values
- 917 Total nitrogen values
- 961 Total phosphorus values
- 168 E. coli counts
- 49 Invertebrate scores
- 251 Water clarity readings
Ozarks Water Watch cautions that the scores in the Report are not intended to define “good” or “bad” water quality. Instead, they are stated to demonstrate how the various monitoring sites compare to one another. It is noted that many of the sites were sampled only once during the year. Therefore, they may not accurately represent average conditions.
