The SWANA Chapter’s contributions will fund an annual award for undergraduates in the Oklahoma Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability. Oklahoma chapter treasurer Ken Purdy is quoted as stating:
We have provided the resources and the University will manage the process of identifying students who excel in our field.
The Oklahoma chapter stated that in 2016 it contributed $25,000 to the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma who also added a $5,000 match. This foundation and the University of Oklahoma will work together to make the annual student award.
