The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) issued ALSS Recycling, Inc. (“ALSS”) a March 11th Notice of Failure to Abate Alleged Violations.
ALSS is stated to operate a facility in Birmingham, Alabama which recycles sintered iron for sale to foundries.
OSHA states that it inspected the ALSS facility as a follow-up to a previous assessment of the facility in June 2015.
The alleged violations include:
- Failure to develop and implement a written hazardous communication program for employees who handle recycled iron products
- Failure to inspect fire extinguishers
- Failure to ensure employees voluntary wearing respirators
- Failure to ensure employees were trained to operate power industrial trucks
OSHA has proposed penalties of $84,000.
ALSS has 15 days from receipt of its citation for proposed penalties to comply, request a conference with OSHA’s Area Director or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
