LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Lana Freeman has joined Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C. in the firm’s Austin office. Lana is an attorney in the insurance regulatory practice group.
Freeman is the former general counsel for the Senate Committee on State Affairs and a former assistant attorney general for the State of Texas.
“We are thrilled to bring on this talented lawyer,” said Burnie Burner, a partner in the Mitchell Williams’ Austin office. “Her extensive experience in the regulatory environment will complement our existing practice and allow us to provide our clients with a depth of experience that sets Mitchell Williams apart from other firms.”
In her role with the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs, Freeman was responsible for all policy issues within the scope of the committee and for drafting interim charges on matters affecting insurance. As assistant attorney general, Freeman drafted and issued formal opinions and rulings in response to Public Information Act requests. Drawing on her experience with the Senate Committee on State Affairs and the Attorney General’s office, she now advises clients on insurance issues and regulatory matters, including insurance company formations, admissions, product filings, mergers and acquisitions, and producer and other insurance-related entity licensing.
She also previously worked as assistant attorney general in the open records division of the Texas Office of the Attorney General.
A member of the State Bar of Texas, she holds a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado.
