The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) issued a December 9th news release stating that it had cited Echo Environmental Waverly, LLC (“EEW”) for various alleged violations.
The news release and associated OSHA citations state that EEW is an electronics recycler in Waverly, Ohio that recycles cable boxes – extracting and selling the metals.
OSHA is stated to have initiated an inspection in June 2015 after receiving a complaint alleging workers were exposed to lead hazards at the Ohio facility.
OSHA alleges that the company:
- Exposed workers to lead above the permissible exposure limit
- Failed to monitor exposure levels
- Did not require the use of protective clothing or provide laundry and disposal containers for contaminated clothing
- Allowed food and beverages to be consumed in areas where lead was likely present
- Failed to properly label containers of material containing lead
