The Arkansas Water Resources Center (“Center”) will hold its Annual Water Conference (“Conference”) on July 26 and 27 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The focus of the 2016 conference is “nutrients, water quality and harmful algal blooms.”
The Center was developed pursuant to the Congressional enactment of the Water Resources Research Act, which established water resource institutes such as the Center at land-grant universities throughout the United States. The Center is located at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and part of a network of 54 water institutes.
Besides Arkansas, speakers will include experts from states such as Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Iowa, North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia, Colorado and Michigan.
Presentations during the first day of the conference include topics such as:
- Nutrient Sources and Transport
- TMDLs
- Nutrient Criteria Development
- Complex Nature of Water Quality Management (and how the challenges can be addressed)
The presentations on the second day of the conference will address:
- Harmful Algal Blooms and cyanotoxins
- Keynote Presentations Addressing Growing Occurrence and Threats of HABs in Freshwater Systems
- Monitoring for HABs and cyanotoxins
- Lake Managers Response to Blooms
- Cyanotoxin Regulations/Risk to Public Health
